Chalet Bon Vie - Mâcot-la-Plagne

We have just returned from an amazing week in Chalet Bon Vie. I can't speak highly enough of Ice & Fire and would thoroughly recommend them for a catered chalet trip.||||The whole booking process was easy and there was great communication from Heather and the team in the lead up to the trip. Nothing was too much trouble and questions answered quickly. ||||The chalet is located right next to a blue run with access on foot from the road above or below. Be warned, if there is a lot of snow (like there was this year) this path will be covered in snow. Wear appropriate footwear! The chalet is ski in/out if the conditions allow. This year, we could have but again there was too much snow and the piste bashers had created a rather large snow pile which made this a bit tricky. However, it's still very easy to just walk up the steps and either get on the piste or head down to Plagne Centre via the free telebus. ||||The chalet itself is well presented, very clean and light above the ground floor. The down stairs rooms where a bit dark, due to the aforementioned snow! The rooms are typical chalet rooms. Not tiny but not massive. We were in room 5 which had reasonable hanging space and places for our bags. We had an ensuite with a shower above a bath. As we were in the eaves, headroom was a bit tight but the shower was warm, powerful and it was nice to have a bath to rest weary legs as well. ||||The lounge was comfortable again, if a little cosy. It was nice to have to log burner but you didn't need to use it. The chalet was plenty warm enough. ||||And now the best bit. Our hosts, Graham and Sam. This is difference between a large company and a smaller run business. Rather than two 18 year olds on a gap year looking after us, we had two experienced hosts. Graham being an ex-restaurant manager. ||We were made to feel incredibly welcome and again, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was exceptional. Certainly better than the meal we had at the "Le Grizzli" on their night off. Canapes and cocktails followed by a 3 course meal with a cheese taster at the end. The food was plentiful (and I'm a big eater) and tasted amazing. Breakfast was always the perfect preparation for a day on the slope and the cakes for afternoon tea a delight. The additional free bar throughout the whole stay (instead of just dinner) was the cherry on top. The beer was regularly topped up and the wine almost on tap! ||||I can't recommend Chalet Bon Vie, Graham and Sam and Ice & Fire enough for an awesome ski holiday.

This was our fifth visit to La Plagne but our first time staying with Ice and Fire. Overall, we were very impressed and this was the best chalet holiday we have experienced so far. Cosy, comfortable and conveniently positioned right beside the piste. Johanna and David were outstanding hosts, and effortlessly produced quality meals of restaurant standard every evening, accompanied by bottled wine. Another lovely touch was the "cheese story" each evening. The meal was rounded off with a different local cheese each night, accompanied by notes regarding its origins and how it was made. Canapes and cocktails added further to the experience, and there was cake and fresh bread to return to every day after skiing. We shared with a number of other guests, none of whom we had met before the holiday, and all ended up being great friends by the end of the week. There was a great selection of board games, which Johanna and David joined in with after they had finished working. Ice and Fire were fantastic to deal with - the entire experience was very personal. Heather organised our flight transfers from Geneva which went very smoothly and the mini bus was far more comfortable than the large coach transfers from Grenoble we had been used to on previous visits. Skis were hired through Rental Republic who provided an in-chalet fitting service, so no traipsing up and down hills with ski equipment. There were no boot warmers, but the boot room was well heated, and my boots felt warm every morning. We had a lovely meal in the cosy Grizzli restaurant located a few minutes' walk away on the chalet hosts' day off, and enjoyed a few apres ski drinks in the bar located up the stairs in the building next door to the restaurant and the Spar shop. La Plagne is a great resort and has something for everyone. Not the most attractive in terms of buildings, but the skiing area is vast, and you can ski the beautiful high up reds and blues from the Roche de Mio on a clear day, or ski down between the trees when visibility is poor to Montalbert or Montchavin. For the first time, we bought the one day discovery pass and travelled over to Les Arcs on the Vanoise Express, enjoying amazing views. We had outstanding ski lessons with Reflex who I would thoroughly recommend. We are returning again at Easter with our children, and I think that holidaying with Ice and Fire is about to become a firm favourite!

Just back from a pre Christmas ski, first week of the season. Chalet Bon Vie is a wonderful cosy chalet , piste side and the chalet hosts Johanna and David provided us with wonderful food, nightly cocktails and canapes. Fluffy bathrobes in each room, complimentary toiletries all add to the luxury feeling.||Really great - can't wait to return!

We stayed here and loved it! Excellent location, close to the slopes. Good living area to chill out in and our chalets hosts - Chloe & Emma - were perfect. The cooking was excellent, friendly, helpful and very flexible when we wanted to change dinner timings. We've stayed in many chalets and would certainly recommend Bon Vie.

It's small. Really small. The pdf on their website of the layout is rubbish. In each room there is only room for a bed, and that's about it. The website doc shows rooms 4x the size of the bed, which just isn't true. Bathrooms were tiny too. You can reach the sink whilst sitting on the toilet in the room we were in. We weren't the first in the season to complain about space either...

The hosts were great, and helps recover a cramped holiday. Wifi was good.

In brief, cramped, tired and mis-sold...
