My wife and I had an absolutely rotten time during our stay at this cottage. The following is a copy of the email i sent to the owner , Jeremy concerning this. He never once called me back, never once offered any sort of a resolution, never once apologized for this booking, and not only is he a liar, but also a cowared, he had his employee Debbie tell us that we wouldn't get any kind of a refund. This isn't about the money any longer, it's about not letting a business owner that operates in this manner , get away with something like this. Please read on ::
This email concerns an extremely bad experience my wife and I just went through during a 2 night stay at one of your cottages. ( #4 ) ;; at Moira Lake Cottage Rentals .
We were dealing with a lady by the name of Debbie; she had originally confirmed a booking for a king size motel room (2) at Moira Lake Motel, the confirmation email for this booking is dated : August 27th .
The 1st problem happened on Friday, approximately one hour away from arriving there. Debbie called us to say that there had been a gas leak at the motel which affected the hot water. We really had need of hot water so it wasn't acceptable for us to stay there without hot water. She wasn't sure if she would be able to give us a cottage in place of the room, only after she heard how upset my wife was about it ( she could hear her talking in the background) ; did she decide to tell me that she would call the owner and check if she could rent us the cottage instead. Compounding this bad news, my wife had just received some bad news that her younger brother had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, terminal so she was quite upset already and really didn't need any more bad news but there was more to come . After about 16 minutes she called back and said that she would rent us the cottage in lieu of the motel. She said the cottage usually rents for 450 dollars per night but given the situation we were put in; there would be no extra charges.
Since we were almost there; coming from Gatineau, Quebec, a 3 and a half hour drive and were going to attend a wedding on Saturday; we felt that we had no other option but to agree. It was way too late to rebook a room elsewhere and she also coaxed us into it by saying it was right on Moira Lake and we would absolutely love it .
Since there were no towels at the cottage and we also needed to sign papers, we had to go to the motel first, then to the cottage. When she talked to us on the phone she mentioned that some of the towels were stained but we could put them on the floor and use the clean ones. This was unacceptable to us, it's simply not the way the motel business works. When we actually got there, she retracted and said the stained ones had been thrown out, so all towels were clean. We asked her for facecloths and she made an excuse as to why the motel didn't supply facecloths any longer ; instead she gave us j-cloth cleaning rags to use in place of facecloths ( picture) . Unacceptable!
We left the motel and went to the cottage where we were going to spend 2 nights at. Our first impression of cottage # 4 was that it resembled more of an outdoor garage then a cottage and was located on the very worst part of the lake ; it was more of a marsh than anything else.
Then we parked and went up the steps onto a wooden porch that was in obvious signs of disrepair and neglect. There were rotten floorboards with holes in them here and there, cobwebs everywhere and completely unswept. There was a steel table that had 1 leg shorter then the others and 2 metal chairs that were extremely uncomfortable.
Given that my wife and I are very clean people, this too was unacceptable and unappealing, just another disappointment for us .
Between the porch and the interior of the cottage, my wife spent alnost 2 hours cleaning, sweeping, dusting and washing before we could even begin to bring in our personal effects.
Then there were many other issues that were completely unacceptable to us, too many to mention in the space available here.
